Touristy Things to do in Mobile That Don’t SCREAM Tourist

Mobile is one of the busiest cities on the Gulf Coast! There are so many things to do year-round that are unique to our one-of-a-kind city. However, we understand the fear of looking too “touristy” in an unfamiliar city, so we came up with a list of things to do in our wonderful city that do not scream tourist:

Market in the Park

Market in the Park takes place in Cathedral Square Park, which is right in the middle of downtown Mobile. At this event, visitors and residents can browse, select and purchase homemade jams, breads, honey and baked goods, as well as crafts from local artisans. There is even music from local bands playing, so what’s not to love about this event? The event runs every Saturday from May to July, so visit and purchase these unique items while you can!

LoDa ArtWalk

LoDa ArtWalk takes place on the first Friday evening of every month in downtown Mobile. During these events, visitors and residents can walk the streets of Mobile to visit several galleries that are open to the public. At these galleries, you can browse the works of several artists or, if you wish, you may purchase these one of a kind pieces. Local musicians play on every corner and fill the streets with sounds. Overall, it is a one of a kind experience in Mobile and every visitor loves looking at the creativity of the local artists!

Visit Local Shops

Mobile has so many local businesses to visit while you are here. One of my personal favorites is the Haunted Bookstore, which is located in downtown Mobile. The Haunted Bookstore is locally owned and operated, and the store is famous for two things: the first one is the cats who love to read with you. The second is the loft area, which houses newer novels and offers a reading space that overlooks the street. There are several local restaurants located nearby, such as the Peanut Store, a locally owned candy and nut store. Many local residents love to buy peanuts from the Peanut Store and feed the squirrels in the park across the street.

Bunch at Ashland Pub

Ashland Pub is the best brunch spot in Mobile! If you are not familiar with brunch, it is a southern tradition of combining breakfast and lunch on Sundays. Usually, it is eaten after church or around 10 am. Ashland Pub is a locally owned restaurant who is known for their delicious brunch menu and bottomless mimosas. You definitely won’t find a better brunch spot than Ashland Pub! However, you do usually need a reservation, as Ashland is a very popular spot among residents.

Take Pictures with Murals Downtown

Downtown Mobile is the home of some of the South’s prettiest murals! These murals also make for beautiful photo opportunities that residents and visitors love to take advantage of. Check out the Heart of Mobile, the Souls of Mobile or the Love Wins mural! All three murals are unique, stunning, and extremely photogenic. The best part about these murals though is that they were painted by local artists, showcasing the wide variety of talent we have here in Mobile!

We hope you enjoy the time you spend participating in these activities while spending time in our wonderful city!
