With the current COVID-19 crisis, many businesses are trying to find ways to help their community during this time of need. Whether it is offering deals on products, putting off bills or finding ways to assist our healthcare professionals, there is help going to everyone. Here are what some local businesses are doing to help during this quarantine.
Mobile Area Water and Sewage System
The Mobile Area Water and Sewage System knows how the COVID-19 crisis is impacting everyone and has decided to not cut off services to anyone who might not be able to pay their bill at this time. One of the most important ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by washing your hands regularly. MAWSS said, “This small step ensures our customers have access to water at this time.” MAWSS is closing lobbies at both payment centers from March 18 until April 13 in order to take part in social distancing as well.
Zaxby’s has always helped and taken part in the community. Whether it was to help schools or organizations raise money or to provide meals for those in need. At this time, our local Mobile Zaxby’s locations are helping provide meals at a low cost to families by giving two free kids meals with the purchase of an adult entree every Tuesday. Their drive-thrus are still open and ready to serve you a delicious and easy meal for your family.
Calagaz Printing is a popular printing store here in Mobile. During this COVID-19 crisis, they will be making plastic face shields that will be donated to hospitals for doctors and nurses. Lately, there has been a shortage of many items hospitals need, including facemasks, so this is a huge help! Calagaz hopes to produce up to 5,000 protective masks per day and make regular deliveries to hospitals. Calagaz Printing also remains open online and is ready to take care of anything you need to be printed.
Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department
During this COVID-19 crisis, it has been especially difficult for children who have had to cancel birthday plans. In order to help make these children feel better, the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department will bring a firetruck by your home on your child’s special day! They will stop in front of the home and turn on the lights and sirens. This special service is available for children 12 years and under, and you must be located within the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department’s district. They require a two-day notice and you can call them at 251-233-5181 to schedule!
Prodisee Pantry is a nonprofit organization that provides emergency food and disaster relief for Baldwin County residents. They have been doing drive-thru food distributions to stay in line with social distancing orders, and have been a huge helping hand to families that are going through hard times. They have scheduled days and times posted on their website as well as how you can get assistance, so be sure to fill out the form and check their website if you need help!
Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce
The Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce is collecting drinks and snacks to donate to local first responders. If you would like to donate, please contact them via their Facebook page. Donations are accepted with no person-to-person contact. Just leave the donation on your porch and they will schedule a time to pick it up!
Domke Market has come up with a fun, innovative way to help support local businesses with their new Big Sunday Brunch To Go! (And let’s face it – we can all use a little pick-me-up these days.) Each Sunday, they partner with Villa del Rey and other local restaurants to create a brunch menu that includes your favorite brunch items and a bottle of bubbly. All you have to do is order and pick up curbside! They’ve also started partnering with local restaurants for curbside dinners. Be sure to check their Facebook page for details.
Southern View Media is a local digital marketing company that is offering businesses a free consultation to determine marketing ideas and strategies that individual businesses can use during this time to help them stay afloat. They will also run a free website audit for businesses so that business owners can work on maintaining their website in their downtime.
South Alabama Orthodontics has been hard at work making face shields for first responders. Using their 3D printer and in-house lab, South Alabama Orthodontics has been able to help full the manufacturing/supply gap. They dropped off over 100 to Thomas Hospital on April 2nd, and are already busy making more!
Ok, so this isn’t a business. But Lisa Denham has made (and continues to make) lunches for children, free of charge. She maintains a no-contact, no-questions guideline and has helped hundreds of children in our community. If you are in need of a free lunch, visit 330 Park Ave. South in Mobile (36695).
Most people may not recognize the name when they hear about Synergy Laboratories, but this business is helping more than we know right now during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are servicing the city’s major hospitals, drive-in clinics, and nursing homes throughout the state with COVID-19 testing.
There are so many businesses and individuals helping the community through these tough times. The best way to help your community right now is being sanitary and following the social distancing guidelines set in place. This limits the spread of infection and the time we will be affected. You can also help the community by donating food and medical supplies to hospitals and those in need. We hope you are staying safe!
