Fun Activities to Get Your Kids Excited About Heading Back to School

While summer is winding down hopefully your kids’ enthusiasm for heading back to school is going up. Sometimes it’s hard for kids to get excited about returning to school. They may be a mixed bag of emotions and probably feel apprehensive about the new year. Never fear! Here is a list of fun ideas to get their mojo flowing and excited about returning to school!
Participate in a Back to School Drive
Teach your kids the importance of giving back by participating in, or organizing, a back to school drive for kids in need. Pair up with your church or a local business to collect supplies and get the kids in on it too! This activity is great for getting the kids involved in the community.
Go Clothes and Backpack Shopping
While most of the schools in Mobile County enforce a uniform policy that doesn’t mean back to school clothes shopping can’t be fun! Make a special day out of it by enjoying breakfast in a sit-down restaurant and then hitting up local shops to buy new threads. Every girl loves to accessorize so take her bow shopping so she can top off her look. Finish the day with an impromptu fashion show in the living room.
Sign up for Extracurricular Activities
Give the kids something to look forward to after a day spent in class by signing up them for extracurricular activities. These can range from school clubs, music and art classes, athletics or volunteering opportunities available locally. Time spent off the couch and in the community can have positive effects on young people.
Organize a Scavenger Hunt
Get those critical thinking skills up and running again by organizing a scavenger hunt using school supplies. This fun activity can be held indoors on a rainy day or outdoors with the neighborhood kids playing along.
Throw a Back to School Party
Nobody gets more excited about the idea of a party than kids. Talk to your neighbors about organizing a block party the weekend before school starts. Have some fun by breaking out the bounce houses and sprinklers and grill up some hamburgers for the kids. By throwing a back to school party you’re bound to shake off those back to school jitters.
If you’ve happened to miss out on local back to school events then head to Gulf Shores for the city’s Back to School Beach Bash. The party starts at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 16, and will be held at the west end of the Gulf Shores Public Beach. There will be music and campfires with all of the makings for s’mores. Free for all attendees.
Going back to school doesn’t have to be a bummer (kids still say that, right?) Having some fun around the house or in the community will get them back in the spirit of going back to school because it will be “lit” (Ok, I know for a fact kids say that).
