5 Mobile Area Events you Can’t Miss in April

The Gulf Coast has always had a wide variety of events and festivals being held from city to city, day by day. Mobile is one of those cities that thrives in pulling together the community for fun events and festivals. But Mobile is not the only place in the area that does this well, from Dauphin Island to Fairhope, there is always an enjoyable event going on that you can attend for a day of fun!

Young Life 5k Run/Walk – April 17th – Mobile

After the run there will be a family cookout and crawfish boil held for everyone attending. Pre-registration is $20/adults and $15/children 12 and under. Day of race registration is $25 for all ages. All proceeds from the event will benefit Young Life of Mobile. The run starts at 3:00 PM and ends at 5:00 p.m.

Special Olympics – April 22nd – Fairhope

Since 1968, the Special Olympics have been communicating the important message: people with intellectual disabilities will succeed when given the chance. This very important message is spread in one simple way, the power of sport. On Friday, April 22nd, Fairhope will host the Special Olympics with a rain date of April 29th. The event is held at WC Majors Field at Volanta Park (701 Volanta Ave, Fairhope) and is open to the public. The event begins that morning with a torch run from Fairhope High School.

58th Annual Dauphin Island Race – April 23rd – Dauphin Island

The Annual Dauphin Island Race, often referred to as the largest single-day point-to-point race in the United State, is coming back around very soon. The race will be held on Mobile Bay and includes three days of sailing fun. Live entertainment, two competitive races, and the Party on the Island is what this great event offers!

2nd Dog River Mud Bottom Revival Music Festival – April 24th – Mobile

Held at the Dog Pond, the second Mud Bottom Revival Music festival is just around the corner! The event’s time frame is set from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and sees headliners such as – the famous Willie Sugarcapps, whose members are known and loved both locally and nationally. This event is family-friendly and hosted by the DRCR. The location of this event is on a private, grassy lot on Dog River. Attendees are invited to bring picnic blankets and chairs to get the full enjoyment. You need to bring your own beverages to the event, food will be available for purchase from the Smokin Gringo food truck and Cammie’s Old Dutch Ice Cream. The private lot is at 2415 Venetia Road. Tickets are $25 at the Mellow Mushroom at the loop.

Battle of the Bay Canoe and Kayak Race – April 30th – Spanish Fort

The 5th annual Battle of the Bay Canoe and Kayak Race is coming in just a couple weeks and it is definitely worth the day being spent there! It will be held on the scenic Delta behind the Bluegill Restaurant in Spanish Fort. The event will involve canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and team canoe relay races. There will be a brunch, entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, prizes for winners, and many other fun activities. The race benefits the South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers programs. This program provides free civil legal council to those unable to hire an attorney. The event is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
